The 1st annual McCallie Invitational Wrestling Tournament (MIWT) began in December of 1981 by then head wrestling coach Gordon Connell. The MIWT's tournament director duties were shared by Coach Connell and Bill Cherry (AD). McCallie School's Headmaster at the time was Spencer McCallie.
